S&C Interviewed on the State of the Digital Oil Field

S&C was asked to provide key insight into this emerging field along with other key technology companies as part of a global survey to understand the State of the Digital Oil Field (DOF) in this low oil price environment. DOF is the integration of networking, communication, and automation with oilfield processes such as surveying, drilling and production. Oil fields are deployed with hundreds of sensors that transmit real-time data to the supervisory control units. The data is then managed and filtered by various service providers and sent to operators.

S&C’s position as an automation integrator and software solution provider working in the DOF space the last six years has provided us real world examples of the pros and cons of applying this technology in multiple operating assets. Once the report is published, we will add a link to the URL.

S&C Develops Application Using Yokogawa ProSafe Safety Control System

Based a customer request, S&C developed an application using Yokogawa ProSafe Safety Control System, a custom automation system. While being limited to only the predefined functional blocks, S&C developed logic using the Yokogawa programming languages and created all of the necessary protocols, design specifications, training simulators, manuals, and FAT and SAT protocols. Surge prevention, quench, and process control applications were developed, installed, and commissioned for an alkylation unit centrifugal compressor in a record time of two months. S&C was recognized for its ability to work within customer constraints, think outside of the box, and execute with excellence.

S&C Releases OptiRamp® Virtual Tag Server

S&C’s Virtual Tag Server (VTS) Version 1.0 allows anyone to manage a data framework. VTS, programmed with advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, can be used in conjunction with other OptiRamp software or used independently as a data concentrator.

This release opens up an entirely new market for historians.

S&C Provides Field Services for Automation Upgrade Project

S&C used previous experience to simplify the project design, optimize the schedule, reduce costs, and meet customer delivery requirements for a recently completed automation upgrade project for two hydrogen recycle compressors.

The FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup were all completed with no incidents or LPOs. 

S&C Granted Patent

S&C has been granted a patent for “Method and Apparatus for Improving Electro-Hydraulic and Electro-Mechanical Integrated Control Systems of a Steam Turbine.” This method provides reliable trip response at the event of complete power interruption from the main source. Integrated turbomachinery control system should be capable of compensating that by   providing power to the secondary motor from the secondary uninterruptable power source, through secondary drive. Patent No. 9,103,233. 

Control System Completed for Elliott-Turbo

S&C recently completed designing, developing, and delivering its second control system for OEM Elliott-Turbo. In addition to surge prevention application development and control system design, S&C provided project management (managing various vendors), developed detailed design documentation, panel construction in Bulgaria (per customer request), and integration with various third-party products, including Bently Nevada, Honeywell, and MTL.
