Our Services

SaaS - Software as a Service

S&C provides a software-as-a-service (SaaS) cloud based OptiRamp solutions to the power industry, and oil and gas industry. Providing the solution through the cloud lowers initial implementation costs and reduces maintenance burden. With cloud based OptiRamp system, S&C purchases and maintains a shared pool of configurable computing resources, such as networks, servers, storage, applications environment, and services. Clients access these resources via OptiRamp web applications including Web Analytics, Report Server, Notifications Viewer, Operator Logbook, User Manager, Web Designer and VTS configurator. All data is stored in a VTS database within the cloud. The cloud based OptiRamp architecture saves Customer significant resources by eliminating the need to build and maintain their own infrastructure while reducing IT administration costs and operating risks.

Users can choose between public or a private cloud based OptiRamp applications. In a public cloud environment, S&C owns the infrastructure and sells resources such as applications and storage to Customer via the Internet. In a private cloud environment, the infrastructure is operated solely for a Customer organization. It may be managed by the customer or by S&C, either onsite or offsite. The OptiRamp approach allows to host within the cloud, a real-time VTS database that can receive and transmit data at speeds of tens of thousands of records per second. Achieving these speeds is possible through a distributed data processing method. On-site VTS servers work with a wide array of data sources and users, such as control systems, OPC servers, databases, spreadsheets, web pages, and embedded devices. On-site VTS servers create data sets comprising data from all connected sources and passes it to the cloud VTS. On-site VTS buffer stores captured data to guarantee that no useful information ever gets missed or lost because of communication interruption. The approach S&C takes is suitable for critical data requiring high levels of availability.
The cloud VTS is a central information hub for parallel access of many cloud based OptiRamp and third-party applications to collect and archive data. Cloud based Run-time software suite is an artificial Intelligence platform for process modeling, conceptual design, real-time and off-line simulation, closed-loop optimization, financial validation, optimal scheduling, and performance monitoring. OptiRamp Web Applications make information available for operators, subject matter experts and decision-makers for monitoring and supervisory control. Customer is given full access to a completely customizable and configurable project

Control System Integration

S&C provides the following control system integration services:
  • Project management
  • Assessment, evaluation, and design (e.g., strategic control logic, advanced process control) for new and existing control systems
  • Panel design and construction
  • Field instrument specification
  • PLC and DCS programming
  • HMI design
  • PID loop tuning
  • Database development
  • Network integration
  • Software applications
  • SCADA (including HMI, PLC, OPC, etc.)
  • Turnkey installation and commissioning

Dynamic Studies

Dynamic studies may be conducted to verify process design and basic behavior, to analyze transient processes, and to understand complex turbomachinery equipment. The goals are to determine process stability, identify and avoid design issues and immediate risks, and ensure the proposed system functions as expected.

The Simulator is used to conduct dynamic studies and provide the following benefits:

  • Provide technical support for assessing system behavior during design stage.
  • Confirm correct control system algorithm functionality or discover system dynamic behavior deviations
  • Provide continuous access to "what if" scenarios and predict an outcome before control action is taken

Dynamic Compressor Studies

One of our specialties is dynamic compressor studies, during which we evaluate compressor system performance under non-steady state conditions and ensure that the proposed surge prevention control system is adequate for emergency cases. The dynamic study also does the following:
  • Demonstrates that the proposed surge prevention control strategy satisfies control objectives for normal operating conditions, various load changes, and shutdown conditions
  • Performs offline operational analysis to forecast potential surge risks
  • Sizes valves (e.g., surge and throttle)
  • Provide engineers and operators with a better understanding of the surge prevention system's dynamic response to different situations
  • Provides compressor surge analysis

Control Systems Migration Services

Control systems migration is a project where some or all plant’s automation control equipment is replaced while introducing new technologies, functions, and features that will improve plant operations. An automation migration should deliver value throughout its entire lifecycle. The target of any migration project is to minimize process disruptions and preserve existing field wiring while reducing system footprint, engineering, and installation effort. S&C’s expertise, combined with extensive data gathering and analysis in the early stages of the project, help reduce the effort and risk involved in migration. By workingtogether, S&C team and end users set forth a plan to ensure the plant has a smooth transition to the latest automation system without compromising their operations. The project begins with an assessment of plant performance, an audit of the existing system, benchmarking, and risk assessment.
An innovative and proven tool for migrating control system has been developed by S&C. The first stage of migration project consists of converting the old program code to operate on the new control hardware. With the automated S&C migration tool this process is straightforward and quick. As soon as a program has been converted, the tool can be used on the second stage to perform standardized acceptance testing procedure to ensure proper functionality and to eliminate any bugs or errors. An offline migration usually needs to be done in a very limited time span. To complete the migration in time all control systems hardware and software elements need to be tested and verified to decrease the risk of human failure and increase the consistency of the work. Acceptance testing is the process of assuring that all systems and components are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained according to the customer’s specific requirements. Proper operation of the new migrated logic is validated with the real simulation system. When all aspects of the programs, logic, HMI, and communications with other systems, are fully verified and accepted the systems is ready for onsite deployment.
